Some thoughts on the joy of amateur astronomy

August 26, 2009
By craig

Lately I've been chatting with my friend Tim about amateur astronomy & telescopes.  He has gotten bit by the bug, and has a young daughter who is starting to get interested in the stars.  It's really wonderful to see people (especially little people) get excited about a hobby like astronomy.  It's a little oddball,...

Nice to meet you, Pre: A 3-day weekend with the Palm Pre

August 4, 2009
By craig

I’ve had 3 days to get acquainted with my Pre. While not enough to live with the device in-depth, it’s an ample amount of time to be both wow’d and disappointed by the Pre. I’m going to assume the reader knows the basic Pre facts, so let’s get right to it, bad news first....

Touchscreens vs. Keyboards: A Split-Second of Frustration

July 30, 2009
By craig

On mobile devices, I used to be (maybe still am), a physical keyboard fanboy and touchscreen poo-pooer.  Something about touchscreens never felt right–they seemed very slow and unresponsive. The harder I pressed, the more deliberate I tried to be, the more frustrated I became. Go back to a physical keyboard though, and I’m back...

K-Swiss Defier miSOUL Tech Review

I post a lot on the Tennis Warehouse forums and write up a bunch of equipment reviews.  Shoes are particularly hard for me because I have a very blocky, short foot, with a really wide forefoot–a foot type tennis shoe companies certainly don’t cater to.  When I find a shoe that I like, I...

How to Build a Tennis Racket Balance Board

Balance boards are used by racket technicians to measure how “head light” or “head heavy” a racket is. It’s an important measurement for experienced players–a player used to a head heavy racket would not be pleased with a head light racket, and vice versa.  Fortunately, you can tweak how head light or head heavy...

New Torpedo sandwiches @ Quizno’s

Am eating a new sandwich for lunch today from Quizno’s. This one’s called a Pesto Turkey Torpedo, and it’s a long, extremely thin sandwich with a new type of bread, almost foccachia-like. For sizing, think about a giant Olive Garden breadstick…but with a firmer texture. Other than the form factor and bread, it’s pretty...

America Needs an American Touring Car Series

March 21, 2009
By craig

Over the last few decades, the heart of American racing has shifted from Indy to NASCAR. No judgement from me on that, it is what it is, and NASCAR brings in the crowds. It’s really the only widely known “stock” car racing here. We race our Impalas, Malibus, Fuisons, and Camrys, on superspeedways, always...
